People are invariably puzzled when they I tell them that the bitcoin ecosystem is full of Christians. The response is usually a nervous giggle as their mental framing of “Bitcoin is a scam” or “Bitcoin is a get rich quick scheme” struggles to integrate this information. Very rarely is there a follow up question as to “why?”.
For those already deeply immersed in Bitcoin, the answer is obvious; almost all of the corruption we see in society, from theft, to murder to wars, can be traced back to the debasement of currencies by central banks and governments. They print money at will, to fund themselves and their supporters, and in doing so they devalue the fruits of everyone else’s labour. The ability to print money, means that you now work for them. What you work for, they can just print for free.
It is therefore unsurprising that people of faith, from Christians to Jews to Muslims—each of whom have religious texts that warn against the debasement of currency—would support a monetary system with a fixed supply that operates beyond the reach of counterfeiters and cannot be debased.
Husband and wife team, Brian and Kelley Estes have spent the last few years creating a film that explores Bitcoin as a tool for good, a tool for freedom and a tool that enforces some of the most fundamental concepts of the Abrahamic faiths.
Can we really end the majority of human suffering and wars? I think we can. Don’t believe me? Watch their film “God Bless Bitcoin” and make up your own mind.
