This past week has been one of crazy censorship as people were arrested and jailed for weeks at a time in the 🇬🇧 UK over social media posts. UK police have also issued threats to extradite foreigners for social media activity. Wild. This has reignited a conversation around censorship resistant communication, and this week we are dedicating the issue to a protocol that has been around for a couple of years with the potential to revolutionise how we communicate online - NOSTR, which stands for Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted Over Relays. The technology is usually represented online as an Ostrich, or “Nostrich”. Don’t ask why…

1. The EU attempts to interfere in the US Elections
The Scoop🕵️♂️: As highlighted last week, in a stunningly stupid move, Thierry Breton, a European Commissioner, issued a letter to Elon Musk and his social media company X in relation to an upcoming conversation between Elon Musk and US former President and Presidential candidate Donald Trump. The letter was essentially a warning to Elon Musk and X about platforming “misinformation” that would be accessible to EU citizens and residents. The “misinformation” is of course not defined, but this is somewhat superfluous to the real issue at hand. The EU should not be attempting to interfere in the elections of a foreign nation, and in attempting to censor or direct the content of a conversation with a presidential candidate on a US media platform, they were attempting to do just that. To date, 29.1m people have listened to the X Space conversation.

💸 It is also worth noting that Thierry Breton, while being an EU bureaucrat, also acquired Senegalese citizenship in 2015, allegedly in order to avoid taxes in Europe. Apparently he will legislate in the EU, but he won’t pay his way…Why you should care🚨: This type of regulatory overreach is both unprecedented and very troubling. The response from the US House of Representatives was swift and brutal. Well done USA.
What does this have to do with bitcoin? 🪙: Bitcoin is censorship resistant money. Events like these should impress upon you the necessity of protecting your wealth from government overreach and confiscation. But even more pertinent to this issue is the need for censorship resistant communication. This is where NOSTR really comes into its own. Elon would be wise to transition X onto the NOSTR protocol and simply make X a client (interface) to that censorship resistant protocol.
